Hi,
I have an existing network, basically i have a Router that is connected to a Netgear Gigabit switch and have two workstations and a server connected to that, my router decided to pack up one me and in a fit of blind panic i did something i will regret doing for the rest of my life, i whent to a competitor for a new router, a competitor being a competitor that only had a single wired router there so i just got it without paying much attention, my network relys on DHCP (as most do) and without a router performing DHCP the entire network failed so iw as really eager to replace it
Well it seems to me the Belkin F5D5231-4 router i got isnt capable for handling being connected to a switch
it refuses to show the systems as connected in its DHCP list, i CAN get two of the systems showing up by running the stupid software CD, but thats no good seeing as how its designed for Windows and my server just so happens to be Ubuntu..
i WOULD take it back for a refund if i could find what i did with the sodding reciept
The funny thing is that i can get the internet using it, and ironcly i can access the server and everything despite the router not acknoledging its existance, BUT normally i connect directly by using the IP address NOW i cant use the ip address it only works if i enter its name, ironic considering that would require the router to Perform DNS
My question is can anyone sugest a good but reasonably cheap router that is capble of being connected to my network without behaving like a spaz?
i was thinking the Netgear RP614 Router but cant find whether it would mind being connected to a switch (hell i always believed that was a given anyway)
Thanks for any comments or suggestion people,
Ill stop my question/Rant now
Ps: Sorry bout all the spelling mistakes
Shame you forgot about the competitor mentions though.
Tolien
PPs: Sorry
