Rover parts/spares

Thanks, more specifically im after a fanbelt (i think) for an S reg 414i as it squeels when turn the engine on.

As a side note, i havent been able to get parkers to work but what sort of figures does the car have? bhp etc.

Just phone up your local motorfactors and nip down imo. No point paying for delivery on something like that. You will end up paying more if you buy online I think.

motorfactors? Is that an actual company or just a garage :) sorry for seeming dim, ive only had my own car for a whole 3 days.

That is just a local motoring spares shop. They suppy parts, mostly to the trade, but will have a front counter where you can walk in and order parts etc. Most parts they sell are copy parts rather than Rover branded parts.

have you tried adjusting it before you go buying a new one?

Should be a 15mm bolt on the alty that you can adjust losen off and the move the alty to tighten the belt up.

My mechanical knowledge is far from sound, if there is an online guide for this i would be willing to have a go at it myself as my dad has every tool under the sun.

As its been said, go to a motorfactors, they should be able to source most parts. I work in one and we occasionally buy from Rover dealers.

You could always try my method for tightening the belt.

Loosen bottom big slidy bolt thing,
grab alternator and pull upwards as hard as possible.
Tighten bolt
Let go of alternator
Swear repeatedly
Receive back massage.

The noise should have stopped.

I guess i will need to have a proper look under the bonnet, shame i dont really know where any of what youve just described is!

From Parkers:

Rover 414i 1396cc 101bhp 115Mph 0-60 11.0 sec 41mpg

If you have the 8v 1.4 though (414 SEi, 414 8v Special Ed), then it's:

1396cc 73bhp 103Mph 0-60 13.4 sec 39mpg
