I'm going to look at a Rover 200 vi today. Only problem is the speedo isn't working.

I'm hoping its probably the speedo cable, however when I fixed my last Rover's speedo cable, I had to get the part from Rover as it was a dealer only part.

Where would I get one of these now that there aren't any dealers?

I might be completely wrong here, but i'm sure I heard most parts could be ordered through land rover dealers.

I bought a belt for the Rover 200 I had from the Rover dealership.

I chatted to the guy on the parts counter and he said that they are continuing to sell parts. They have loads of stock of parts all over the UK and a lot of parts are obviously produced by other companies.

Only problem is, most Rover dealerships are now dead and gone, so no parts counter to go to :)

Wrong, the majority of those who have changed franchise, still service and offer MGR parts.

My local rover dealer hadn't had a parts counter in years. The owners of Rover sold the parts division (always a profitable side of the business - as soon as they sold it Rover was doomed!).

Genuine parts will be available for the forseeable future.

Rights to rover parts were sold in 2000 i think, to catepillar? Every former MGR dealer ive been to sells mgr parts still and services MGs with the proper equipment.

If you're after parts at the moment Xpart are the people to look for.
For the OP though, RoverBreakers.com may be an option.

Cool. Thanks for all the replies guys.

I'm quite excited. We've gone from looking for a 1.4 Lanos for the missus's car to a 200vi. Much better.

Just look for any dealer which still sells Rovers.

I'm quite lucky, as even after 2 closed down, I still have 3 close to me. One is a 5 minute walk from my house

There are 2 Mitsubishi dealers and one Land Rover dealer, all which stock MGR parts.

But with the majority unless you knew they were a rover garage before hand they don't particularly advertise this, well none round here do, they've all become Mazda dealers :)

Rovers are getting snapped up left, right and centre.

Rover 620Ti's and 820 Vitty's are fetching even more money.

Perhaps people are now realising what good cars they made :D

I think its just a case of lots of people want cheap cars, Rovers were cheap, they suddenly became in demand, prices go up.
If only MG Rover had realised this, they might still be in business.
