Recently my breaks have started to squeak and im just wondering whether they need replacing?

Mainly this happens when stopping slowly they let out a loud squeak and it is quite load! I think their weaker than normal but finding it hard to compare, but they still seem ok.

Do i need to get them checked? and how much would it cost?

It hasnt been serviced for a while so think they should be checked. The car in question is a rover 214si (40k) 1997.

If so would any one recomend quick fit? or any simular garages in swindon which wont charge the earth!

Is it a screech or more of a grind? If so ya brake pads have prolly worn, replacement 4tw \o/

If they're squeaking, it could be them running near to the limit (mine are ON the limit and haven't started sqeaking yet :o) or there's no copper grease between the rear of the pad and calliper.

Whip off one of the front wheels and check the pads out. DON'T take your car to Kwik-Fit!

I had the misfortune of taking my old car to a "Nationwide Autocentre" last year to have the discs and pads replaced. Cue me being £175 lighter! They well and truly took me from behind :(

Ill have a look in the light tomorrow, assuming i find they are worn, where would be the best place to get them changed? And whats the maximum i should pay for new pads inc fitting?

I was charged £75 for new pads + labour at Nationwide, but a smaller local garage shouldn't charge you more than £30 for labour. Pads should be £25 for both sides.

I replaced all the pads on mine within the hour on my 2nd attempt... and the calliper bolts aren't exactly going to be seized seeing as they come off every few years.
