Royal Mail Delays?

Yeah. I ordered a Corepad C1 medium off eBay, along with a cheap large mousemat for my keyboard to sit on (reduce vibrations/slip), a Boogie Bug mat as a glorified desk cover a few days after and some Blu Rays off Amazon. The BB and Corepad have come but I'm still waiting on everything else. I sold some stuff on eBay around the same time but thankfully they've been received.

It's the time of the year + all the unexpected snow = massive delays.

Shush, common sense isn't allowed when talking about delays in things that are being moved across the country...

I was pleasently surprised yesterday when a box set of DVD's ordered from the States arrived after less than 10 days in transit (standard shipping, not even air).
On the other hand my copy of the RT for tommorow hasn't arrived yet, blooming RM slackers:p (I'll probably pick one up locally if it doesn't arrive in the morning).

Well, RM postie has been - sans the packages I'm waiting for.

He did have a couple of DVD screeners I've been expecting since last week, so perhaps there's quite a backlog they're working through.
IIRC some mail centres/sorting offices have millions of items in the backlog due to the weather (I think Glasgow is meant to be very bad for the backlog), and posties in some areas are being asked to do full "normal" rounds on Sundays to try and clear it (as opposed to the more normal clearance measures of limited Sunday services).

No problem with FedEx here.

I heard there's a foot of snow in PA.

Waiting on two packages from two different companies who both use dpd. Not turned up yet. Yet five blu-rays I ordered from three different companies in the US all arrived within five days!!

I think I'd put it down to old parcels being stuck at the back of a depot somewhere. Stupidly, new stuff probably goes out before as they can't be arsed sorting the old ones.

Royal Mail and couriers are in a terrible mess. Hopefully extra shifts this weekend will help catch up a bit.

I had gig tickets take over 2 weeks to get here 1st class recorded. Missed the gig. :(

It's more than that.
RM are rated on what percentage of the post arrives on time, there is no further penalty for how late something is after it's classed as "late".
This leads to RM managers pushing for mail that is in danger of being classed as late getting priority, followed by mail that isn't in danger of being late, with mail that is already late as a very low priority - they aren't going to get penalised further for a late package taking a month than they are for it taking 5 days rather than 3.

It's a FILO rather than FIFO system due to the performance targets (first in, last out).

The joys of simple, single minded performance targets being different to what actually benefits the customer/end user.

Amazon are telling customers that RM are 9 days behind on the majority of their packages.

Royal Mail is an utter shambles at the moment, they've even stopped guaranteeing delivery time on anything sent Special Delivery since Dec 1st.

Doesn't stop amazon advertising guaranteed next day delivery at £7 with royal mail

By the end of the Xmas rush it'll be a week, perhaps more. This whole christmas thing seems to catch management out every year...

You'd think someone would warn RM management that Christmas was coming up, it must be a real surprise for them every year when around the start of December the mail volumes suddenly and without any warning increases for some unexplained reason.

I work for royal mail and we just managed to get our depot completely clear of the backlog today. We had about 3 times as many staff in as normal today but it means that come monday we will be starting with a clean slate.

Dont blame individual depots/offices for the delays, a lot of parcels never even made it to the main sorting hubs in the first place. What then typically happens is that a depot can get 2 or 3 days worth of deliveries in one day, no matter what you do your never going to get that cleared.
