Royal Mail Sorting, Christmas Casual Work

i stood up for 8 hours each night , so what ? its easy and simple work for decent enough money.

i didnt have the choice of leaving because i needed the cash for christmas . ive done much worse jobs anyway

I did mail sorting for them over Christmas, a few years back. I didn't find it too bad, but the hours were unsociable.

Beware of static when sack tipping, and you go to grab a metal cage though.:D I hate, and I had to get used to that. :(

Well went for the interview/registration they accepted me to start working only problem was the shifts were very unsociable

Off the top of my head they had

Early

0600-1300

Late

2200-0600

and another 1400 - 2100

I explained how I could not do any of these as they were not sociable for me as Im at college full time. The guy has put me on a waiting list for a 1700 - 2200 shift working one Saturday aswell. Im something like 17th on the list and they need ten people but the guy was confident that that number would drop out so there is a good chance I'll secure that shift.

Oh and for everyone else going the event was very informal I took along my CV etc for it to be shoved in my face and say you'll only be sorting mail :p . Good experience either way I look at it.

Annoying thing is I kinda need the cash :( so I hope I do manage to get a place.

The "interview" wasn't really even an interview the guy just sat with me and filled out some forms then passed me onto another bloke who accepted me onto the system took a photograph etc. Im annoyed because there were shifts I could do but with college being more important I just couldn't accept any of them I do hope I get onto the evening shift though.

So your basically garenteed a job. Hopfully its as easy up here :p
It is a shame about the hours not available to you. If all else fails try Lidle/netto if there in your area, the wage is over £7.
Also was you wearing casual wear or formal?

Yes your pretty much guaranteed a job providing there is place on the shift's available otherwise you go on a waiting list. Like I said it's annoying as I would have even worked nights, I was 17th on a list for the evening shift, they needed 10 but the recruiter reckoned they will have at least 7-10 people drop out so I should be ok :)

I did the 2100-0500 shifts - and to be honest it wasn't all that bad. I would happily wake up at about 10-11 in the morning.:)

TBH Im a night person I would have worked well with this shift but with college to be up for I would have made myself Ill at some point working nights then getting up for college

I just happened to be looking for a sorting job for xmas, unfortunately it seems there's NOTHING in central london! I guess everything just gets shipped outside? Nearest was over 20 miles away.
