Royal Mail Subcontracting ?

Maybe this has been going on a while, but first time its happened to me, so wondered if anyone else had experienced this ?

I ordered something and it was listed as being sent via RM, it arrived today delivered by Evri, with the label proclaiming sold by royal mail.
If this is the case its a new can of worms. I often will choose to buy from someone who uses RM over Evri due to bad experiences with Evri in the past.
What about the sender, surely their contract is with RM ? if RM then sub it out that can only have a negative impact on any non delivery claims, let alone a potential breaking of contract with the sender ?

Maybe its just me that feels this is wrong, but I thought it worth mentioning to see if thats the case :p

I don't think RM are using Evri, but IIRC there is something where you can book an Evri delivery but use an RM/PO drop off point (you go to the PO print off a label there and drop it in a box).

At least with evri you might get a chance of getting it within a few weeks as compared to what RM try and attempt.

We had one in November that was a RM and then delivered by evri.

As above, I think I'd trust Evri over Royal Fail any day of the week and that says a lot about the state of our postal service.

Unfortunately it does.

I now check postage when buying and if royal mail I shop elsewhere, even if that is more expensive, as I know I will probably get it much quicker, with better coms and less grief than what comes from rm.

Parcel force on the other hand, different company, same website cannot be faulted...

IDK but my post came after 2pm.. today

usually it comes around 11pm like clockwork
Privatisation and cost cutting (well staff cutting, it doesn't save money if it means overtime and Sunday deliveries in August), it's not like it's an important service that is the default, and legal standard for things like medical appointments and speeding tickets etc.

With us if (and it's a big if) it's our regular postie it's normally between about 10:30 and 12, if not it could be 2pm, and for any tracked package it could be 18:45 on a Sunday if the package is going to be late if delivered on Monday.
It's very clear they're playing games with the stats, and it's also very clear the problem isn't the local delivery office given that a lot of tracked packets are being sent out for delivery around noon, from a delivery office about 15 miles away having obviously not made it to the actual "local" one in time*.
I won't mention the "next day" package that went back and forth between two regional hubs for 4 days and really annoyed me as it was some new shoes for my dad as his feet had swollen and he needed them for a hospital appointment (size 12-13's are very hard to get in store, size 14s are impossible).

*I suspect that is costing them a fortune compared to getting them to the local office, given it means they're having to send people out working overtime until 7 or 8pm, on Sundays.

I guess it depends where you live, there is the odd hiccup, generally RM are reliable for me, but rarely much before 2 in the afternoon. Evri has been historically bad.

Funnily enough my mail was delivered in a van, not Royal mail branded like normal, but a Manchester vehicle hire logo all over it, i'm in Leicester, never seen those vans used by RM here before.

I've had that. Assumed they'd just run out of vehicles as I haven't seen it in a few months now.

normally that's a case of them needing a van and not having one, either because they're down some, or because managers/staff are having to do overtime whilst the other vans are already in use to clear a backlog or because they've realised they've got packages that are about to reflect badly in the stats ;)

Czech Sphinx owns significant part of Dutch post, who has been cleared to buy Royal Mail. Dutch government have refused to give financial rescue package.

RM has been getting worse since covid began, but the worst is yet to come.
