Howzit guys,

I need some urgent assistance please if possible.

I have an SBS 2003 server running at a site. On this server there are three network connections:

WAN, LAN and DMZ.

WAN is connected to the ISP (Via router)
DMZ - Is for a seperate part of the company not related to the network
LAN - For all users on LAN and Wifi points connected to the switch.

I have ISA 2004 running (Actually, the last guy installed it on here for some stupid reason)

So, we're facing a strange problem at the moment, which I cannot work out.

If the WAN connection goes down (Internet or disconnection from server) I am unable to login to any PC via RDP. I can get to the login screen on the PC - however once I have entered the password and username, it says the RPC server is not available.

If I login to that PC using the local account on the PC and not the Domain account - I am able to login just fine.

This is a big problem for our remote users, using Pastel etc.

Anyone got any ideas as so what on the SBS 2003 domain is causing this??

It looks like it is a Domain issue though.

When the WAN is backup - everything is fine again...

Would greatly appreciate any help!

I haven't gone near the services as yet. I have checked that the RPC service was running, and it is.

When I disconnect the WAN connection - I am able to login to a PC via RDP for a minute or so, then after that - no more connections.

It seems the RPC service 'dies' after a minute of WAN going down.

It is sounding like DNS/ISA issue to me - but not too sure what though. :(

Thanks for the help.

Hey Will,

Wan is a connection to the Internet. I think DNS comes from there, yes. I checked DNS and it is pointing to 192.168.20.1 which is the default gateway (LAN)

Am I missing something?

Many thanks for your time.
