Anyone played baldurs gate 2 ? great memories from that game, may get a reinstall very soon, any other games similar to it ? will the upcoming Diablo 3 for pc give me a similar experience ? havent played any previous diablo game and thinking on giving this one a playthrough

There are a couple more installments in the Forgotten Realms made in a similar way including:

Neverwinter Nights
Icewind Dale

I'd also recommend Planescape: Torment

All of the above are available super cheap on gog.com right now.

The best ones are covered by Antar above, I would say Icewind Dale was the best personally. If you are lookig for old isometric RPG's as your post reads, the Fallout games are also excellent.
Also Arcanum is brilliant as well and quite underrated imo. I am probably in a minority that doesn't particularly rate Planescape Torment though(just not for me).

Im guessing graphics are not an issue, but all the games i can suggest have fairly decent graphics and the best gameplay.

Temple of elemental evil - turn based D&D with the best sound track i have ever heard. (GoG)
Diablo games are all worthy of playing.
The Bards Tale - On steam, very funny game.
Icewind Dale 1 and 2 - Both on GoG for a few quid.
All the Spiderweb games such as Avadon, Avernum and Geneforge.
Neverwinter Nights
Dragon age 1
Divinity games (Divine, Beyond and 2) - First two available on GoG.
Arcanum (GoG)
Drakensang (1 is better than the second)
Planscape Torment (GoG)
Nox - A bit like Magicka/Diablo but less frustrating. GoG again.
Fallout 1 and 2 (GoG!)
The witcher games.
Dungeon siege 1 (Gets a bit repatitive)
Torchlight - hack and slash like Diablo.

I suspect Diablo 3 won't be all that close to BG2, but I haven't played them so can't say for certain.

If dialogue gets you off then I'd strongly recommend Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

Some great suggestions in this thread. I should point out that Diablo 3 is just an action-based hack 'n' slash. It may technically be an RPG but, within the genre, couldn't be more different to Baldur's Gate 2.
