RROD help please!

Just happend for the first time to me, gutter :( wanted to play the fifa 10 demo today aswell! luckily im back in school on monday and out all tomorow and most of day after so wont miss it for a while.

Question time:

1. What is microsoft's position atm? do they repair them all for free? I heard they extend the warranty for 3 years to cover the 3 red lights? Im not sure how old mine is.. i bought it second hand in 06 so it could well be out of warranty by now :mad:

2. If the warranty wont be any help what can i do? Looked at lots of videos on youtube, all slagging each other off etc. What actually works? The towel trick? the penny heatspreaders? Tightening the x clamps? replacing the x clamps with ordinary screws? I'll have to wait for a response from microsoft as to weather they can fix it (without me paying more than, say, £50) as i dont want to remove the seal to find out they'll do it free
 
1. Phone Microsoft and they will ask for the serial number. This will let them know age etc.

2. I have personally known the towlel trick to work, In this instance it worked for about a month before it went wrong again.

The best thing to do is speak to Microsoft.
 
just been on the phone to kmicrosoft and could not b happier, it'll be fixed and home within a month (supposedly) along with a months free live for the grand total of: £0.00. very nice guy on the phone, im used to dell: ive been shouted at (seriously!) told i was stupid (effectively) and had over £200 stolen
 
mine has just rrod, been crashing when playing fifa for the last few days with the screen just freezing. had to unplug from the mains to get it to work properly.

2nd one gone now.

sorted and ready to be sent away :p
