Morning all :)

Can anyone confirm if the intel RS2WC040 RAID controller will work with WD 3TB drives? It's not specifically mentioned in the list of tested hardware but there is one 3tb drive mentioned.

Thanks :)

The RS2WC040 is a rebadged LSI 2911-4i (or 2940-4i depending on the firmware).

Another common rebadged version of this controller is the IBM M1015.

Have a search around for 3TB support on the M1015 and you should get your answer. I suspect it is but may need a firmware update. Check to confirm though.

Hi, thanks for that :) looks promising. It's a brand new card so hopefully even the intel firmware is reasonably up to date :)

Bonus - it worked as the intel card without having to flash it to LSI.

I've set up a quick RAID 1 drive to test and all seems ok - please could someone cast their eye over this atto test for me? I'm thinking the write speeds are pants but the read are perfectly acceptable? It will be mainly used for streaming media etc. so write speed is relatively unimportant.

Thanks :)

A couple more ATTO screenshots. Difference is I've now added a third 3TB WD Red and changed to RAID 5.

Without write cache:

And with write cache:

Unsurprisingly write speed has taken a big hit, but that's fine as the primary purpose for the array is to stream media so it will take a while to load, but with it pushing 300mbit/s out that'll do nicely :)
