im not sure what ive done wrong or what i need to do to get it to boot into windows right? maybe i have plugged them up wrong? or do i need to configure something in the bios? please help.

You will need to enter the BIOS, make sure the time and date are correct.

Sort the boot order to optical drive first, harddrive second.

Insert the windows disk and when prompted by it, press any key to load from disk, then just start the installation procedure.

Wipe the HDD's and start again.

windows is already installed but i can and will eventually install from vista to win 7 64bit so if i need to i can just install win 7 and start over. just wanted to know why it doesnt just boot into the current installation thats on the hhd?

Because the system you took it out of probably used a whole different set of drivers and hardware than your new system so the installation won't boot on your new system because it's completely different.

You could try booting in safe mode, if you can get that far, and see if you can uninstall all the wrong drivers and install the right ones.

But when changing systems a fresh installation of Windows is the recommended method.
