What's the best software to create/update an xml file for rss feeds ?

The couple I've tried have been old, some even had compatibility problems with W7. I've already opened up the file in notepad++ and seems pretty straight forward to modify, I'm just thinking the software route would save me time.

There are too many variables here to give you a solution in the first reply. Please describe exactly what it is you have and what you are trying to do with it.

For example, did you manually create this xml file, how is it updated and how often, and where are you publishing this rss feed? Are you looking for a desktop software or a web script?

I eventually found RSSeditor which does everything I need. Also allows me to upload the XML file via ftp directly to the server :)

Been a long time since I've manually edited an rss feed. Surely a php script or something would be better, unless that's what you use already!

Obviously automating the updates would be more efficient but it's above and beyond my capabilities :(

I was using Wordpress but it was compromised so many it wasn't funny. This only started out as a small project but it's getting bigger

Spam comment is easy, make sure Akismet plugin is correctly configured and install a captcha plugin. Virus warnings is pretty easy too - there are plugins to verify the core files, you need to keep it up to date (3.0.4 currently), change the wp-admin dir to something different, don't use an admin name as main user, and that will stop 99.9% of your problems...
