Hey Guys,

I was just wondering how many RSS feeds you lot subscribe to and what reader you use. Maybe even post a list of all your feeds here so others can subscribe to the same ones if they so desire!

I currently have 48 subscribed feeds and use Feed Demon on both my desktop and netbook which sync to my main Google Reader account and also use Google Reader on my Touch Pro to read whilst out and about.

Thanks

Regards,
Neil

google reader, too many feeds to mention! ********* have a handy feed of all their new pics (my screensaver is huge lol) :D I've set up feeds of youtube channels I follow, facebook notifications, ocuk latest deals, and a lot of other stuff.

RSS feeds have never appealed to me. I've tried a few times over the years but I prefer to just go out an browse for stuff. Maybe it's just me.

I suppose they can't be liked by everyone. I used to use a variety of readers when I first figured RSS. I tried having them in IE7, Thunderbird and in Opera but the common issue was that If I had the same feeds on my phone or netbook and i read them on there, when I came back to my desktop I would ahve to go throguh all the items I read earlier and mark them as read. I then came on here and asked if anyone knew a solution to this and I tried Feed Demon and use it's synching abilities to sync with Google Reader, my desktop, phone and netbook and all works beautifully!

About 200. Using Google Reader. Not all are updated constantly - some are just once daily eg Astronomy Pic of Day, 50+ are band blogs only updated every so often and others are for updates eg new drivers etc. Only read about 50 a day. It's so much more convenient than browsing all those sites though.

i have one.

a news feed on the industry i work in. igoogle grabs it for me.

/edit 5k posts!! over 10 years here and only just got there!

Basically, an RSS feed is available wherever you see the following symbol:

rsslogo.png

You clikc the icon or the link to be taken to the RSS feed and you use an RSS Aggregator to subscribe to feeds and you are then notifed of updates to that feed.

Instead of you having to check all your favourite websites every day. You subscribe to the RSS feed on those sites and they notify you when they have new content!

There are many different types of aggregators, some include:

Google Reader,
iGoogle
Outlook 2007
Thunderbird
Opera
IE7 + 8
Feed Demon

Each of the above apps is capable of subscribing to and displaying feeds. Some are client prograsm you install on a machine such as Feed Demon but there are online versions like Google Reader.

Personally, I use Feed Demon and have all my feeds in there and that is synched by Feed Demon to my Google Reader account. Google Reader checks for updates for each feed at a predefined interval and then Feed Demon syncs with it. This allows me to use Feed Demon on multiple computers and if I read items on my netbook whilst I am out, then when I get back home and go on my desktop system, the items I read while I was out are already marked as read thanks to Feed Demon and Google Reader.

I also can read my feeds by using the mobile version of Google Reader on my HTC Touch Pro which is pretty much what I do when I arrive at uni each morning before my first lecture. Just takes 2 minutes to check throguh them all and if I want to highlight an item to read when I egt back home, you can use Google Readers star function and star it whcih shows up in Feed Demon where I can read the full headline.

I hope this gives a good insight into RSS. I had no idea what it was a while ago and then found a site about them and find them excellent!

Try copy and pasting the RSS link into the subscribe section of Feedly. I don;t use Firefox and Feedly so not 100% sure how it works so just giving different advice as to what may work.
