Based off Nvidia G70 Technology

Clockspeed: 500 Mhz
Memory Speed: 650 Mhz
ROPS : 8
Memory Bus: 128 Bit
24 Pixel Shader Pipes

Developers say its more near Nvidia 7600 than Nvidia 7800 in terms of overall power

Developers say the performance of RSX is like a Nvidia 7600 GT if you compare it with its PC G70 Counterpart

Triangle Fill Rate (NOT setup rate) for 7800 GTX = 860M Triangles/s
Triangle Fill Rate for RSX = 1000 Triangles/s (Might include CELL)

Fill Rate for 7800 GTX = 6880 pixels/second
Fill Rate for RSX = 4000 pixels/second

To say the 360 is based on 7900 GTX spec (almost) technology... the RSX is a bit of a wet dream turned nighmare.

I don't wanna slate the PS3, but untill 12 months after its release its not gonna rival the 360.

i just hope the ps3 can do some decent aa and af because the jaggys my 360 gives pn both pgr , just cause and various demos are just silly considering how high tech its supposed to be :/

Huh? The 360 had a custom designed ATI part for its GPU called Xenos.

Whilst I am the first to admit I know very little about grephics tech. Wasn't the Cell supposed to be Sonys graphics processor (as well as everything else)

My understanding is it fell short so they had to bolt on a graphics card, namely the RSX. Now I would assume (and I could very well be wrong) that the Cell is still capable of processing some of the graphics and the graphics card simply polishing them.

So that being the case a super duper graphics card may not be critical.

(there is also the argument that PC graphics development can not be taylored to one make and model therefore there is plenty of inefficentcy.)

Yeah Krono i think you are right, in its early development i think the PS3 was supposed to heavily use the Cell for its graphics, much like the emotion engine. But they eventually realised needed a graphics chip also. The PS i dont think even had a graphics chip and the PS2 had some generic heap of **** if memory serves, so i dont think PS devs rely too heavily on that.
The problem is though nVidia had this all sorted for sony ages ago, but the cell and Blu-Ray have kind of outdated this chip.
yeah its unfair to compair speeds etc of PC's and Console as like you say PC's are programed to such a wide scope there is a lot to be had for streamlining. Also its easier for a dev to say '2Gig will make the game run better' than spending time reducing the overheads.

The 360 has a GPU based on the ATI X1900 with unified shaders. If the PS3 is based on 7600 GT tech then oh dear! How can it possibly do 1080p at 60fps like they are claiming? Try running Oblivion on a 7600gt

It has very little to do with it, PC & console graphics work completel differently

Remember the PS2 still sold considerably more units than the Xbox on older less powerful hardware, and while some of this was just fanboyism its also the case that there were worthwhile games for it for nearly everyone

Obviously this might not be the case fo rthe PS3, but its not how much you have its what you do with it!!!

The Xenos (360GPU) is a custom design for the 360 and not based off of the X1900 series.

IIRC it was developed by a different division of ATI to that of the pc card counterparts.

Over 100 million units bought by fanboys? :p

I dont think the whole 'fanboy' thing was as bad is it is now back then, the internet has managed to go a long way in making a division and a lot of fanboys imho. Although maybe its different in the school yards, i dont know. but even then they aint the ones buying the consoles.

Im going to wait and see what sony have to say when they release the Specs and show some games in action before passing judgement.
This is coded completely different from a PC and who knows, it might be a hell of a lot more efficient then a PC once the game Developers get it right and learn how to code it properly.

Until then im just going to ignore stuff that gets posted like this especially when the Link in the OP is a link to an Xbox Forum
