Hi guys,

Looking for some advice if possible.

I have bought a Qnap box at one site which handles backup's and this is sync'd to another site which has a Freenas box and currently this is working fine. This replicates once a week as i want it too. Now the problem is when i try to sync the backups from the other site (freenas box) to the Qnap box. I just cannot get this to work. I think it is limitations with the Freenas software?

I have googled and googled and tried looking SSH'ing onto the Qnap box but getting stuck at the first hurdle so my question is. Is their any software hopefully freeware that i can set up to schedule once a week that will take it from the Freenas and stick it into any shared folder of my choice on the other box? Would love it if Qnap offered a pull function but that would be too easy :D

Thanks.

Are we talking about rsync over SSH? If so it's most likely a key problem assuming all the port forwards are setup correctly

Hi there.

No, its just through Rsync within the GUI itself. What i mean by when i SSH onto the box, i was following another forum which told me to edit the rsync.conf file. Although i couldn't do that bit :p

Thanks.

First let me say that rsync over the internet isn't a great idea because it's not encrypted. It is possible to run rsync over a secure SSH tunnel which is what I was referring to above (i use this myself).

In freenas if you're using rsync you need to have the service started (obviously) but you also need to set up a module to receive.

The GUI is a bit crap here, you can only find this option on the left hand menu under services>rsync>rsync modules

The module name is case sensitive (ofc)

Sorry if i'm teaching you to suck eggs
