rt-n56u using Tablet

Not sure if this is in the right place.

I have the Asus rt-n56u router with USB hard drive attached with a few movies on it. I would like to use my Lenovo Tab 2 tablet to view these movies through WiFi if possible. I know this can be done using a PC as I have done it, just can't find out how to do it using a tablet.
Can anyone help me do this as I don't know where to start?

1) Download File Manager HD + VLC
2) Open File Manager HD & add the network share.
3) Browse the network share and find the file you want to play, select it.
4) Select VLC when it asks you how you would like to open the file.

I have downloaded the 2 files you said then I got stuck with what to do. I managed to find the folders but nothing showing in them.
Am I doing something wrong?
 
Yes I can see my router and the folder names of the films. Just when I try to open them they are showing as empty
