Just had my first incident of an RTC and I was not even in the car.

Took my other half to hospital today for a pre-arranged appointment and whilst parked my car was reversed into. The at fault party failed to leave any insurance details but handily an independent witness gathered her reg plate, description and left me a contact number on my windscreen.

I have reported the incident to police as a fail to stop rtc (car was in a marked bay on the road and not a public car park) under the advice of a PC friend of mine and have an incident number.

I have yet to inform my insurance company as their line just keeps going dead when I try to call. Do I need to tell them? Obviously without the other parties name and address and insurance co I cannot go directly to them. Would you suggest a 3rd party service such as helphire? Damage appears superficial at present and car is perfectly driveable. They have creased my front bumper, drivers wing and push a headlight cluster about 15mm back into the body of the car.

Car is a 2004 Audi A4 if it makes any difference. Obviously I want to resolve without any cost to me and losing 0 no claims if possible but not sure how difficult that might be.

There is a possibility that the hospital might have CCTV footage of the incident as it was directly outside the outpatients entrance but have not checked yet myself as was going to leave that bit to the police.

Any ideas welcome as at a bit of a loss with this one. Rather angry that someone would drive off but that is the way of the world and just tankful there is an independent witness who is willing to help. She has already agreed to speak to police if required.

Thanks

Road Traffic Collision. All the cool people use that term.

You must inform your insurer, yes. Helphire probably wont be interested as it isnt a straightforward case of 'bill the other party £90000 for 6 weeks hire of a Vauxhall Astra'. You'll probably have to do the legwork yourself, or get your insurer to take it on provided you are comprehensively insured and understand that your NCB is toast if they dont find the guy.
