I've received a question from an online buddy regarding RtCW and I'm at a loss. Can you guys help? I know there're a few vets on here. Below is the email convo we've had.

With my new computer built and the completion of Modern Warfare 2 Single player and a few Special Ops I started to install some of my other games and started with RtCW. I have it installed, working with vresion 1.4 and can get into Beach server but it has my name as wolfplayer even though I pulled everything over. I have fixed this before but can't remember how, do you?

Yeah, IIRC you hit the key left of the “1” key (Tidle) type name then BAZAB or it could be seta name “insert your name” You can also do it in your MP config file.

That much I rembered. I have the config from my old computer and copied folders and map packs over but it is still using default settings. There was a way to make it use a certain one I just can't rembered how to do it

I think it uses the same style console commands as Jedi Outcast, so /name Wes might work for example or /setname Wes, but i thought there was a place before you entered the game to do that?

maybe its booting into a mod that he didnt have...tell him to check his rtcw folder and see if there are any new folders and to overwrite the configs with his own.

but yeah the command is
/name "silly billy"

Don't use /set name just /name

If its on vista/windows 7 its possible that file permissions mean his config isn't readable by the game. I'm assuming his config file is either named the same as teh default config, autoexec.cfg or hes calling it from the console with /exec filename.cfg.

I like the way the question was 'how can I make it use my old profile/config' and everyone has basically responded with how to set your name :p

It is on a brand new Windoze 7 install. I loaded the game from CDROM, pulled the latest update to get me to version 1.41 I think and then connected to a game server.

I pulled over just about everything I could think of from my old system but it still thinks I am wolfplayer. Sounds like it might be a permission problem so I will keep digging. Let me know if anyone else comes up with a solution before I do.

I am also having trouble playing Kungfugrip. I have all the files pulled from the old install but it says it can't find the bsp in the maps folder, which is there.

Is there something odd about Windows 7 and game permissions and what do they need to be set to in order to function properly?

you probably put the files in the wrong place.

easy way to do it would have been to delete your freshly installed rtcw folder and copy your older rtcw folder with the content in its place.

Actually, I think that is what has gotten me into trouble. With Windoze 7 there might be some permission issues that I hadn't foreseen.

Hi,

Not sure if this will helpor if it relevant.

Do you have AVG installed on your computer?

As i had problems with the game Crysis when i was trying to change the setting in game it kept on crashing and it turned out to be AVG's resident shield stopping the game from changing the setting in game. I solved it by excluding the folders that crysis needed to change in the AVG advanced settings.

if this is completely nothing to do with your problem then sorry,

Tim
