Hi everyone I purchased a Alienware 15 with GTX 1070 about a year ago I loved the quality and speed of the machine I was very impressed. however after not playing it as much as I thought I ended up selling it. I always end up doing that I have done same with 2 gaming pcs I built as I don't use for few months and games I like seem to be few and far between so always end up selling as feel like I have m
oney sitting and wasting away when not in use.

I know that sounds daft and it is but there is a few games I now like the look of, I got bored of total war Warhammer last time and waiting for next historical title any idea exactly what it is ? anyway I like the look of Frostpunk and age of empires definitive edition and obviously the new age of empires and total war etc also ancient cities coming up and they are billions all look excellent. been playing red alert 2 lately so I love army build rts games and city builders like banished etc.

I am thinking about getting a gaming laptop again but if I do I wont be selling it I will want to keep and play games for a good 4 year or so will Alienware 13 or 15 do that ? I will wait for decent sale at Alienware when is best ? think last time I got 15 percent off and then said wanted to send back and go bit more off, so would the Alienware 13 with 1060 do the job and keep up with latest rts games etc ?

any other good rts games coming up like total war and any dates for AOE IV ?

thanks Dean

Not planning to, would rather have a smaller 13 but 15 has better card for not much more money. I am thinking of it as investement so even of dont play all the time over 3 or 4 years should be a few good games out in that time. Always end up back wanting latest rpg games.

Thanks dean

Not planning to

Nobody plans too. They end up doing.

How do you know how you will feel in 4 years?

I would recommend you either get a cheap second hand system (laptop values tank the second they’re used) or get a cheap system with a 1050/1060 in it instead.

Agree obvioisly i dont know biy a few good games out at the minute snd missing gaming.

Age of empires definitive edition
They are billions
Frost punk
Total war three kindoms coming soon
Age of empires iv coming soon

You think gtx 1060 would play these woth ease?

Would rather go cheaper and go for alienware 13 with 1060 and i know i may get sock when no games i like out for years like age of empires may be ages until released but i do play to keep none the less for few years. Would much rather spend closer to 800-1000 but loved the build quality and software on alienware. You think besy bet to wait for sale in the outlet

Thanks for help
Dean

I am thinking of it as investement
That word and this forum do not mix. Aside from mining, there is no such thing as "investment" when it comes to pc/laptops and their components.

Does it have to be a laptop Dean? What's the spec on the laptops you're looking at?

Hi and yes investment is wrong word i just meant if last 3 or 4 years or so only costs 20 pound a month overall is what i mean and of can get a few hours gaming a week its worth it. And yes has to be a laptop as no room at all for desktop. Jist lookomg for sonething tgat will play the games listed so i5 or i7 with ssd for windows 16gb ram and gtx 1060 minimum of would play the games effortlessly.

Really like the alienware when is there next big sale usually ? If can get a alienware 13 for less than £1000 that would be great.

It's so easy to say well if i spend another 200 i can get this graphics card and another 200 i can get this so going to try stick to that range.

Might check ebay etc every so often aswel but people usually price to high.

Would 1060 play total war games etc for next few years you think and age of empires when it releases

Thanks dean

A laptops cpu will bottleneck even a 1060 in total war games. As I said above they are heavily cpu dependant and laptop CPUs aren’t very powerful. Your better of looking at various combinations of hardware and finding benchmarks of the games you like on that hardware.

Where are you getting your reasoning for this from ? My son as a i7 6700k in his laptop and my other son has a i7 7700k apart from it not being overclocked both are pretty powerful CPU's and the same as the desktop equivalent.

Don't get the 1080 version of the 15 if you do get the 15. Get the 1070 OC. The 1080 in there is the Max-Q version which is limited to a power output of 110W (compared to 180w in the 17inch) vs the full fat 1070 which is just as good and significantly cheaper.

The below was done by an alienware employee:

I think you'll struggle with total war three kingdoms on a the 13inch which is the lower power weaker 7th gen parts.

you just missed the 15% sale which was beginning of july, they then did a 12% discount up until 22July, they are currently running a 10% discount.
