Hi Guys,

Last time I played a RTS game was probably the original Red Alert, so was hoping to get back into these as its a nice break from FPS and console games (I assume RTSs dont translate well to consoles)

So what would be good games to get back into it? Only really looking for single player stuff (unlikely to play online) and games that have a nice gradual learning curve...

Unsure about the genre of the game so anythings open...

Im unsure about DOW - I dont want to be rude by the era seems quite 'geeky' so puts me off (pot calling kettle black I know - hope you know what I mean)...

Ive just ordered Supreme Commander Gold as Ive heard thats very good and I totally forgot that Ive got Total War Eras too (played Rome a bit but not the earlier ones)...

One other game Ive googled and heard about is Company of Heroes - hows that? Like the idea of WWII thats not a blinking FPS game (sometimes I think WWII only happened to be fodder for gaming :/)...

Are these all RTSs and of the same scale/complexity?

Also could I play these on a normal laptop (say a work supplied one ;))

Company of Heroes is fantastic, but i'd say there is a learning curve for beginners. Not sure if it will run on a company laptop.

Another I really enjoy is Battle for Middle Earth 2, though again you may have some problems running it dependent on laptop specs.

Warcraft 3 however will most likely run and is highly recommended.

Its not essential to play on a laptop - more the case its a nice distraction when you are stuck in a hotel...

Ill probably get CoH: Gold and might get the CnC Decades thing too (I presume that works find on Vista), with Total War and SupCom Ive got all the RTS bases covered :p

Get over yourself and get Dawn of War :D

It's available for next to nothing these days, will run on a fairly basic laptop, and has a fantastic campaign mode (the original and winter assault anyway).

Id definately join these guys above, Dawn of War :D
Only watch it, if you play too much, you can hear the servitors saying "yes, my lord" in your sleep!

Also, command and conquer games are fantastic.

Do not get Coh or Supreme Commander until your comfortable with the RTS genre again. CoH is amazing though it'll take you a couple of hours to get the hang of it. Supreme Commander is same thing, except the games last forever, and require patience.

Dawn of War, Red Alert 2 (or get RA3), Star Wars Empire at War (quite relaxed, and good fun with a friend, if you don't have any then don't bother :p )
