As much as i love CoH i would like to look to the future so i would like to know what is or is going to be the next game to own. I am a bit of a traditionalist in that i am not that keen on sci-fi themes but if the game play is excellent i will consider it.

There's only one place to go from coh and that is the second best current rts which is starcraft II.
I wouldn't be put off by the sci fi theme it's like the wild west in space at times style.
There's no denying starcraft 2 is good but it doesn't have coh's depth with the actual combat it's very much paper scissors stone and lots of unit blob spam.

Starcraft 2 if you want a balanced, competitive type rts that you can put a lot of effort into being good at. The single player and custom maps are fun, but the main focus of the game is developing your skills and getting better. There's no other game out there with a higher skill ceiling, other than Starcraft 1. If you're into that type of rts then definitely pick it up.

You can get Starcraft 2 for the competitive 1v1 games or Heroes of Newerth for competitive team games.

It is, have SC2 and its very basic going back to old school RTS games.
Very simple game, but well balanced which is the main thing i guess.
Prefer dawn of war 40k myself, DOW2 sucked too.

Can't beat a good old Command and Conquer bash. Except for 4 which was truly god awful.

Red Alert 2 is my personal favourite.
Honestly watch some competitive streams of SCII and it will be clear that the game is anything but basic. There are a lack of good rts games atm, DOWII is good fun imo, and the original Supreme Commander ofc.

CoH is an amazing game and I also prefer that setting and scenario but I recommend you grab Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II + Gold Edition which contains the addon Chaos Rising. It combines RTS with RPG elements perfectly, and has a brilliant campaign and bag loads of playabilty....
