RTX 2070 - Normal or Super version?

I'm looking to build a new PC soon, and was just wondering about the differences between the RTX 2070 and the RTX 2070 Super. Is there much noticeable difference between the two, and is it worth the extra price?

I'm hoping to use the PC mainly for gaming at max or close to max graphics settings at 1920x1080 resolution. Ideally I'd like the PC to be able to run games at max or close to max settings for the next few years at least. I don't stream or anything like that, and I tend to just have the game itself running at the time, with nothing else going on in the background, if that's of any relevance.

I currently have a GTX 970 and wanted to buy a significant upgrade to my current card. I was even considering the 1070 or 2060, but figured the 2070 would be more future proof.

I went for the 2070S because mine is in advance of a VR headset and I also run the desktop at QHD. I don't think you can future proof graphics cards that much. You could easily go for the 2060 and save pennies.
I'm not convinced that the price drops have really happened on the 2070 cards yet.
Someone will be along shortly to advise you wait for 5700XT cards before making a decision
 
Well the 2070Super is faster and cheaper than the normal version so I'd recommend the faster cheaper option if you want more performance at a lower price. If you want to spend more for the slower more expensive card then get the normal version. They are available in FE version on Nvidia's website.
AIB cards will be more expensive so then you're looking at paying another £100-£150 for a marginally better cooler.

People keep telling me they're cheaper, but even on the official Nvidia site they're more expensive than the standard 2070s, so I'm not sure where people are getting this information from. I'd appreciate knowing, thanks.

Cheapest 2070 (normal version) on the Nvidia site is £428.99 and the cheapest Super version is £475. Same goes for Amazon... £472 for normal version and £529 for Super.
 
Go for super. Maybe even contact nvidia and ask if a mega is coming out soon to combat the big navi cards that are coming out :p

Except for the fact that even in its stock form the XT beats the 2070, matches the 2070S in certain circumstances and is a boat load cheaper.

The only reason I said wait for the AIB models is to avoid the divisive reference blower. Hell, save even more money over an RTX and get the reference 5700 XT and tune it so the blower isn't a problem.

Seems I was talking ****, I guess Nvidia just used it as an excuse to hike prices as usual. Get the 5700XT instead!

Blower and slower. Only a goer in certain circumstances.
 
Super. There is a significant difference in performance. As long as you don't pay too much for it.
I do wonder why you would consider such a powerful card for 1080p? The 2017 S is arguably too powerful for 1080p. Certainly you can't even use DLSS at that resolution which is one of the high tech things you are paying for. So I dunno. I am not sure I would recommend a 20 series especially at the very high prices they are at the moment.

Even if you only have a 1080p monitor, you can upscale things nicely with DSR. Not to mention the obvious fact that he'll get more frames in 1080p which can be a dealbreaker if he games at high refresh rate.

There is absolutely no such thing as 'too powerful' when it comes to GPUs. Having said that I wouldn't buy a 2070S for 1080p it's way over priced. A 5700XT would serve the OP better at a far more reasonable price.
 
I'm waiting to see what happens to the prices once the AIB cards are released. quite fancy the gigabyte 2070 in white as it would go with my build and a lot cheaper than a watercooled 5700xt. The fps difference between a 5700xt, 2070 and 2070s doesn't bother me.
