Hi all

I am looking at upgrading my sons graphics card to a RTX 3070 but looking online there are many different ones at different prices with 2 or 3 fans.
Can anyone explain the differences as to me they all look the same.

he currently has a GTX 1050 so it will be a big improvement.

thanks

To be honest he won't see a huge difference between them. The main thing you'll want to check is how much room he has in his case (some of them aren't small), then availabilty.

FE looks the best and cheapest to me. The third party ones look cheap and blingy.

Not that you have much choice at the moment anyway. They'll be impossible to buy for at least another few months.

The ASUS TUF model appears to be about the best of the bunch in the 3080 class. It's the same cooler on the 3070.

None of them.

Don't support these VRAM gimped cards.

Exactly. Very quickly these cards are going to look like poor purchases. Same thing has happened with Nvidia cards launching with minimal ram for years. 600 series with 2GB, 780 with 3GB. 8GB is the minimum at that level of performance and Nvidia knows it.

8GB is already not enough, 4k games are starting to choke on that. 3070 is a 1440p card tho. I'd wait for the ti/super series or get a new amd.

if he's playing minecraft wait for nvidia cards with more memory

Whichever one you can actually buy. The cards can't clock higher than what they do out of the factory so a super-beefy cooler is almost pointless, and most coolers seem to do an alright job noise-wise in the first place. So it really doesn't matter.
