RTX 3080 FE - Backplate Thermal Pad Mod

What cooler?

Just a CPU cooler from an old Dell i5 2400 machine.

Although I've ordered a bigger Noctua cooler to see if that knocks any more temp off.

My aim is to get to 120MH/s and <100c VRAM with fans at 55% and 100MH/s and <100c for a "low noise" setting.

I just stuck an old CPU cooler on top, not even managed to find a thermal pad yet and it knocked 12c off my vram temps

My last card lasted me 5 years, I'd like to make sure this 3090 does too :D

106 feels uncomfortable. I've gone from 94MH/s with minimum memory clock of 8500 and 102c to 110MH/s with mem @ 10k and vram at 98c with no warranty voiding modifications :)

When VRM's can run at that temp anyway its not something to feel uncomfortable about anyway.

Sticking the cooling heatsink/fans on top like that makes people complaining about the 12 pin connector looking unsightly a complete joke when it comes to aesthetics :)

From everything I've read, the suggestion seems to be that the card will start throttling at 110c and damage can occur at 120c.

While I'm sure these kind of temps are ok during gaming, heat is definitely an enemy when running at load, 24/7.

Regarding aesthetics, I don't care how it looks when it's bringing in over £300/m, but I really like the 12 pin in terms of aesthetics, I'ts a lot tidier than the 3x8 pin on my 6900xt, that's for sure!

How are you getting over 300 per month? At 93MH's a rough estimate is between 150 and 270 at absolute max per month.

I've made further improvements.

Adding the noctua fan, then placing the previous fan next to it has knocked another 4-6 degrees off, so I now have VRAM 96 degrees at 10k mem clock and card fan at 50% - which is a comfortable noise level.

My 3080 is doing 93MH/s at 65% power and 950Mhz overclock on the vram.
Just checked temps and vram is running at 104C and it’s been doing that non stop for the past 3 or 4 months.
I should probably do something about that...

I think this is only going to be won by whoever manages to get two AIO coolers strapped to it.

Nope, spotted it but then seen he has an Asus card.

I moved my ZxR Daughterboard outside my case so the main card can sit on a riser further down to give my 3090FE more room to breath.

Pun not intended!

My 3080 is sitting in my 3rd x16 slot with the sound card above and my 1080ti above that. Memory is getting to 100c, wanting to bring it down a bit.
