RTX 5080 OC or AMD 9070XT

MRSP is the king in making a decision!

5080 is a joke card. Take out the FPS counter, and 99% people would be able to see the difference between 5070TI and 5080......
Should really go 5070Ti or 9070XT

Don't give out your hard earned cash easily mate.

It looks like MRSP for 9070XT cards is going up and 5080 are going down.
1 month ago that was reversed.

Realist basic MSRP for 9070XT £620.
Basic 5080 MSRP should be "£950"

That's £300+ difference. Is 5080 WORTH 300 quid more. Hell NO.

Go with 9070XT if you can find a good REF MSRP model or MSRP 5070ti
Yeh but all of that has gone out of the window. Everyone has paid regardless look at the amount of people willing to pay 3K for a 5090. The prices are here to stay unless gibbo gets thousands of units in to do a deal.

There's no such thing as a good TN panel monitor (I had the OG ROG Swift).

The first thing anyone needs to do - before anything else - is upgrade your display. I just don't understand the logic of getting a good GPU and delivering the pixels to your eyes via terrible panels. The display is the number one thing above all else. OLED OLED OLED. Then worry about your GPU....

That's what I've got - still going strong!! Isn't the reply to OLED OLED OLED - BURN IN, BURN IN, BURN IN?

I'd stump up the cash in an instant if I knew for certain it wouldn't be trash in 3/4 years

This is the one I have sat in my lounge ready to send back https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...80hz-a-sync-gaming-monitor-mon-msi-01772.html

Will that be any better than my TN? I'm afraid of losing G-Sync down to 30Hz to be honest, everything now seems to start at 48Hz

 I remember my 17" TN panel from years ago(which was a big monitor back then)..1st monitor i got as it had ultra fast response time at the time compared to everything else..move your head a few inches off axis tyhough, and just turned to a washed out shimmering mess
100% go oled...never going back to anything else...ips is great for work ,but contrast sucks and va smearing, no thanks

as to 9070xt and 5080...different class of cards...I've got a 9070xt nitro+ I got for £650 launch day..at time 5070ti where i am were closer to £1k and 5080's couldn't be had for under £1200...was a no brainer and performance on my 4k C4 is great, and leaps above my 3070ti (as actually having 16gb vram makes a massive difference for 4k textures compared to the 8gb on 3070ti), and i play cyberpunk no problem either.
the 5080 is a tier above though so can't really compare...either you have the money for it or you don't..we can't advise on that as everyone earns different amounts and have different outgoings
right now though, looking at ocuk prices, the nitro+ is £720 and you can get a zotac 5070ti solid SFF or core for £728.99..so £8.99 more...so from those I'd go 5070ti..slightly faster and having cuda will make it more appealing to a wider audience come sale time, so should maybe hold up better in price...software will get fixed eventually..think the 9070xt pulse or reaper at £650 need to drop as well to compete better...too expensive for a base card now, esp as dollar has weakenned significantly against sterling. $600 launch price msrp is £450.65...add vat is £540.78. so £650 for base is just too much now...distributors/aib or whoever are just fleecing too much

It’s a complete none issue. Have to keep repeating it so many times everyone has convinced each other 16gb is not enough. There are 2 games I know of Avatar and Indiana Jones at 4K and Ultra native will run out of VRAM. This would be easily solved anyway by using DLSS and moving to some high settings.
If its already happening now with games 4K Ultra Native you can be very sure it will be a problem in future. I'd want 20GB for a card I might keep 3-4 years. DLSS and downgrading image quality to lower settings on a card costing well over £1000 makes no sense because of RAM limitations.

Defeatist;) Prices will fall the supply is increasing. Maybe test and roll get a 5070Ti, 9070XT and 5080 consecutively and opt for whichever is best. If the 5080 is being considered then the return postage means nothing.

Ha! Nah, I've had OLED TVs and monitors since 2018 - not a trace of burn in anywhere. You don't need to baby them either, just be 'sensible' and take a few easy precautions. For example, with my main gaming/ desktop screen I have the taskbar on auto hide and a wee app that auto hides desktop icons. And use desktop wallpaper that varies every few hours. For general gaming or TV usage OLED is not a problem at all but if you sit and watch Sky news for 12 hours a day on an OLED with the constant info bar at the bottom, that might burn in. But if you watch any news channel these days, at all, I'd venture you have a much bigger problem than deciding what monitor to get!

And it's not just the general qualities of OLED that are so good, it's the HDR that goes along with it. These 2 things in conjunction are the biggest update to gaming for me since Gsync was born. IPS panels are not great for gaming either. I wouldn't bother getting anything unless it's OLED, or soonish you'll have the new wave of minLED etc too, but I'm not too up on that tech at the mo as I don't want to be tempted!

I have both.

The 5080 is the better performer for the games I play (raytracing), but it's been in absolute driver hell since launch.

The 9070xt is more modest, but I haven't had any constant driver fannying, and does just fine on the 4k 144hz TV.

I was about to say that earlier. I didnt want to go too much of the topic.

But this 100% mate. OLED. Do not buy anything else.

What LG C4 Tv have you got?

I upgraded to a 5080 recently and honestly DLSS and the new features are so good it doesn’t matter it’s not native. It’s easy to just sell and upgrade for the 60 series anyway if needed. Considering most play at 1440p, 16GB just isn’t an issue.

For performance it has to be the 5080 but for price it has to be the 9070xt - the extra performance that comes with the 5080 is not worth the extra cash!!
It is if you value RT and multi frame gen which is a game changer with a high refresh screen. Also the base models seem to be a lot lower in price now so becoming more viable.

got a 48C4 which is slightly too big for me at desk gaming..I have to push my chair back a bit..just flew back with the 42" version which haven't unpacked yet(can't get it here), which i find much better as sn has one at home(c2 version) (ppi more in line with 27" 1440p display, rather than a 24" 1080 that the 48" equiv is)..48" will go in bedroom with xbox. C4 up to 144hz refresh over older 120hz on c3 and below, but i'm mainly single player so not really an issue for me anyway, and instant response on oled more than makes up for it
don't think i could go smaller than 42" though as real estate for work is godsend having the extra. run dual 43" dells ultrasharps at work

Is the LG evo OLED42C44LA 42-inch worth buying on the rainforest for £649 cheapest I've seen it. John Lewis closest after that. I was gaming on the LG CX 55 inch and that's been excellent but I went Dell Alienware AW3225QF but I miss working with dual windows open together on desktop and I had good experience with CX. My girlfriend is happy though as she scored for the CX. :D

I'm running a 4090 on an LG 48inch OLED 4K and honestly it DOES matter it's not native. If you're happy to compromise image quality then I'm happy you're happy with substandard image quality but I am not. I understand if others are happy dropping the resolution to 1440 but again for a card possibly lasting 3-4 years costing over £1000 to be limited by VRAM today in two modern games means in 3 years it will be several games.

At 4K £1000 getting 16gb card and way to expensive for 1440p , I'd consider 9070xt if it was around £550, but not at it's current listed price

There two completely different price points, if all you care about is absolute performance and you can afford it get the 5080 otherwise get the 9070XT and put the £300 odd saved towards a holiday.
