Honestly the cheapest solution is the 1080ti unfortunately. I have a similar situation, DVI-D is the only input on my monitor, adapters work but don't allow it to be overclocked to 100Hz.

I'm surprised anyone is using DVI-D only, but this has to be the third or fourth time i've read something like this.

It's a shame that the DVI-D compatibility has been removed.

Off the top of my head you will only get 1080p at 120Hz maybe 144Hz (or 4K 30Hz) - 1440p 120+Hz or 4K 60Hz I believe needs Thunderbolt 3 support over USB-C.

EDIT: It might not be a straight connection to the GPU though and require mirroring the output internally which can have compatibility and performance implications.
