Hello fellow PC enthusiasts!

I am in need of some help making the right choice of power cable to use for my system before I fry a perfectly good GPU.

I have not upgraded my GPU since the RTX2060 launched, which still used the standard 8pin pcie and now that I have finally upgraded to a 5000 series GPU I am faced with the decision of what cable to use to power my RTX5080.

Specs below if this helps:

PSU - be quiet! Straight Power 12 850W Full Modular 80+ Gold
CPU - Ryzen 5700X3D
CPU Cooler - DeepCool LT520 240mm AIO
Mobo - Asrock X570 Steel Legend
RAM - 16gig G.Skill 3600mhz
GPU - GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE Graphics Card

The scenario (this is where the noob in me starts to show) :

The GPU comes with a single connector that splits into 3 x 8pin pcie connectors. Said single connector looks like a 12 pin vhpr but from what I can see online the new 5000 series has changed that to a similar looking 12V-2x6???

Is it better to use this cable supplied and run 3 separate 8pin pcie cables back to the PSU or buy 1 cable of 12V-2x6 one end (GPU) and the other end is a 12vhpr (PSU PCIe5.0)

Originally the PSU came with this cable which I am sure wont work then as I believe this is a 12vhpr and wont fit the GPU end? PSU is about 2 years old

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated in the matter!

It should still fit, 12VHPWR and 12v2x6 are compatible. If your PSU has a native 12vHPWR/12v2x6 cable, then I'd use that first. Reason being, it means less cable clutter and less points of failure.

Why do you think it would not work?

Cable and PSU clearly says they support 600w, think old version was only 450w.

As Tetras said use the dedicated cable instead of the adaptor, just make sure it is plugged in fully and be careful with bending the cable.
