Bah.

Off work today, so I've been doing some tidying up on my PCs.

Decided that the bios on the Quad core beastie needed updating - running a fairly old bios on a GA-965P-DS3.

Hands up who can see where this is going?

That's right, the lights flickered briefly half-way through the update

A quick google suggests that a replacement chip isn't an option, so it looks like I'll be upgrading to a P35-DS3 real soon now.

There goes my boosted SETI RAC for a few days, but you can't keep a good Giant Atomic Lizard down!

Ah well, where's my credit card

It's more than a bit on the old and tatty side, and the P35 version has some useful extras, too.

The dead one served me well for over 8 months, so I'm not as unhappy as I might be. If it had gone in a couple of months, I'd RMA it, but I can get a replacement from OCUK in about the time it would take me to find the receipt from a competitor

<edit> The new one is ordered now, anyway.

So when do these Penryn chips come out? </edit>
