rules for guns for carnivals and shows?

what are the rules regarding imitation or decommissioned guns and carnival parades?

i have a mate who has an army motorcycle with sidecar with a fixing point for a machine gun or a grenade launcher. he dresses it up as a russian bike (in army colours etc already) but to complete the look wants a machine gun. he wants to know where he stands with this as the only time he would have it on is for carnivals/shows etc.

i know it's allowed, but are there any regulations he needs to check so he doesn't get the wrong type of gun?

He wants a machine gun? I doubt driving around with a deactivated one wouldn't scare anyone? That would be the only reason you'd have any concerns - immitation firearm etc - but a machine gun isn't going to be seen as 'risky' over an immitation hand gun...

he wouldn't be driving around with it. purely for carnivals etc i.e. organised events.

The Sale of imitation firearms has been massively restricted by the VCRA bill that has recently come into effect, it is meant to prevent the sale of any item that looks like a gun, (unless it is brightly coloured) this would most likely prevent him from buying one, (well it certainly would if it was an airsoft gun which would be the easiest way to buy a replica).

well he's off to an army show tomorrow to buy one but wanted confirmation first.... he's seen the one he wants but decided against the grenade launcher as he thinks he's pushing it with a machine gun.
