I will just say it once, I don’t know if this is true. No one seems to be able to confirm it (yet). The story is that NVIDIA is allegedly working on a new GTX 1070 Ti graphics card with few more cores. According to the rumor, the new card would have 2304 CUDA cores (which I find hard to believe because it would very close to 1080 and the gap is not really that big). So as much as I love making charts for specs comparison, I think it’s too early to make one here.

Why would NVIDIA make GTX 1070 Ti? Well, it’s quite obvious that Vega 56 is faster in this price segment (at least when official price is considered). NVIDIA could either lower the price of GTX 1080 or bring a new part.

Partially the reason why I’m posting this rumor is this photograph, clearly showing ASUS GTX 1070 Ti STRIX O8G. It may just be a typo, which may just be adding unnecessary fuss to the story, or it may be a real thing. Whatever it is, it has been a while since we had a rumor about a new high-end card from NVIDIA, so have a look:

Sounds like tosh to me. No reason to EOL the 1080 when they could simply drop the price (not much point in that either when it beats Vega 64 comfortably). There's too small a gap between that and the 1070 to introduce a card to combat Vega 56 surely?

Next year Volta will be available, buying a poorly priced gpu in the hope it competes better next year isn't what I'd call a solid option.

I buy on facts, not conjecture.

Not defending Vega but buying what will surely be a powerful but no doubt exorbitantly expensive Volta card isn't what I'd call a solid option either.

There's nothing to suggest it'll be exorbitantly expensive. At the moment a V64 offers worse price/performance than a 1080ti factually.

Yes there is, the fact it will released by Nvidia and the price of the 1080Ti are indicative. I'm not talking about Vega, the current pricing is a joke.

The top Volta maybe eye watering expensive, but how much will the SKU be that comfortably beats a V64 in performance/efficiency/price ? it will only possibly need to be a 1160 or maybe a 1170.

I'm not comparing to Vega so that's a moot point.

I have to say the graphics card arena is boring at the moment. AMD can't compete so Nvidia are releasing a card nearly two and a half years after the 980 Ti offering a small performance advantage for 70% of the price. That really isn't good progress.
