According to VG247, who have heard from a "a well-respected source" that Microsoft had been briefing publishing partners about this.

It's likely the £429.99 existing Xbox One model will drop in price to compete with the £349.99 PS4. There seems to be talk of it coming without a Blu-Ray drive to lower production cost or even without Kinect.

Would a £349 One tempt you? It may well do me, but not without a physical drive...

Edit... Fastest 'Slim' version of a console ever?

Well if i was in the market for a new console, at the same price as a ps4 you would be getting a machine with less power, no disk drive so no BD playback for the same price as a PS4. At 349 it still to much it would need to be under £300 then, but then again Sony could drop the PS4 price.

The only thing that would tempt me to buy a one, would be if they removed the Kinect gimmick and made it as powerful as the PS4. Next gen gaming at 720p is ridiculous.

People say that as if the xbox one cant display at 1080p - still the best looking next gen came is on xbox one and its at 1080p - forza.

I'll be honest, why would anyone think a machine with less overall power, no blu ray drive and costs the same as a machine with ability to play blu rays and offer overall better possible higher visuals at the same price be a good deal?

just can't see the point myself, now.... however if I wanted a machine for a game I can't play but only on that machine, and it had a few more games either in its back catalog or up and coming that is exclusive to that machine, then superb, cheaper price I'm all for..

Wii u is one machine I'm keeping an eye on as I'd like to play Zelda, Mario and the up coming Mario Kart. if Wii u hit below a certain price I'd get one..

I won't however get a Wii u to replace my ps4, nether would I get an x1 to replace the ps4, but I'd get a Wii u if the price drops for the exclusives, and I'd get a x1 if the price drops by quite a bit for its forza games...

Microsoft I think need to give up on chasing down Sony on raw power, Microsoft need powerful exclusives, its exclusives and price drops that overall saved the ps3.

How many 1080p games does xb1 have?

forza and tomb raider, there are a few more I can't think of the names right now.

ps4 has one game not at 1080, battlefield 4, that's 900p, all over ps4 titles are 1080 but I've seen ryse on x1 at 720 p, it looks outstanding you'd not think it was 720p.

point is, 1080 p doesn't always mean outstanding looking.

Yea should be more around the £250 mark with no kinect thing.

Huh? Kinect isn't £180 worth of hardware.

If they were to release a Kinect-less SKU (and personally I don't see that as being likely right now) it'd probably be £20-30 or so under the PS4 price at the most. Expecting £250 is pure delusion.

Well this is the thing, most people say yes, they'll buy a XB1 without Kinect for a lower price. However, I just don't think it's going to happen, MS have pushed Kinect hard and they're in it for the long haul as it's part of their 'vision'. Unfortunately I think that the no disc drive thing is more than likely to be the real factor that cuts the price. And to be honest, this (risky) strategy could work for them, lower price get's it in more homes and no disc drive equals direct game purchases from the XBL Marketplace.

I wouldn't buy one without a disc drive, I probably would without Kinect.
