Hey guys (and gals),

Would like it if you could look over my proposed rig, and comment on any alterations etc. I will be taking the rig to uni, where i will use it for a little bit of gaming and general usage. My budget is around 500, but is a little negotiable i guess. I get paid on Tuesday so parts will be brought then, so you have the weekend.

Edit*: Also, i hear a lot about unlocking the extra cores on the processor i have there, with a particular mb and bios, obviously i would like to do so if possible, cheers.

You woll need to change the cooler to the AMD version.

I have heard that this case is really good to build in, slightly more expensive but Antec have good designs and a good RMA service for spare parts to.

Done the following spec, the motherboard looking on xs forums can unlock the extra cores, I have not included a extra cooler. Also I have dropped the hard disc down to 640gb but this runs at 7200rpm which should help with performance.

RJC's spec is very good. AM3 too which is much more future proof than the AM2+ spec you drew up.

Alright fellas, bit of an update, got my moneys in and looks like ive got a bit more cash to throw around

i now have £665 to use for the set up.
A few more things though, i now require a keyboard aswell, but not overly expensive (£20 - 30 maybe).
Also, i have decided that the pc will only be required for some quite light gaming, as i have the xbox, so the GPU could possibly be downgraded to a 4850 or something (or nvidia alternative). Tbh i really want the pc to be snappy during operation (think fast itunes

) and allow me to use a wide range of programmes (some resource intensive).
Finally, the pc will be run on the Dell S2409W monitor (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-029-DE&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=), so HDMI output would be good (1920x1080 resolution).
