Run two vBulletin installs on same domain

Is this OK to do?

I have a VB3 running nicely now but want to look at and try VB4 without removing the current one. Can I just set it up to link in to the database in use for the current, working forum or is that likely to get messy?

just copy the database as is, then install into a new folder and do the pointing.

much safer in case anything goes wrong!

v4 will likely do database upgrades so it'll probably kill your v3 install. Make a copy as tres says.

vBulletin allows you to make a copy of your "Live" forum in a "vbtest" folder.

So - copy the database, copy the file structure into your vbtest folder, then, most importantly - CHANGE THE CONFIG to point it to the new database! (I forgot to do this once, luckily the only change I made was to a group's permission before I realised, rather than something more drastic!)
