Can I run Windows Vista Beta version only ? Cuz I'm close to finishing my new comp. Or do I have to install XP and then Run Vista Beta installer ? Also what's the date for release ?

You can burn the Vista DVD image to disk and run it from there, like you would when installing XP on a clean hard drive. The release date has been changing but the current date is January 2007. :)

Changing further in time or earlier ?

So if I format my comp, I can install it, right ?
Cuz I'm asking this, because I don't have windows of any kind, and I don't think it would make sense to buy Windows XP for my new comp if Vista will b out soon. Is it good so far ?

Yes, you can install it off the DVD you will have made.

I very much doubt that the release of Vista will be any earlier than January - if anything its going to be later.

I also wouldn't recommend using Vista as your primary OS as it is, afterall, BETA software.

I know, it's only Beta, but I don't have many options here.

I can run Beta for 6 month until release
I can buy Windows XP, which would b waste of money

Quit with the illegal software discussion please.

Why wouldn't u recommend running Beta ? Is it that bad ? I see there's updates for it all the time, did people experience major problems ?
I read the Vista thread but it's 32 pages, so I didn't quite finishe yet, too much to read. So maybe u could put in your 0.02 cents and lemme know how's it working so far.

I have it and but have a lot of driver problems. I cannot get my infrared, bluetooth, tv card and game controllers to work on Vista. I also found it quite slow compared to XP. Apart from this it worked fine, didn't have any stability problems at all.
If you can get drivers for all your hardware then it should be fine.

Yeah, I'm buying part by part for my new build, so I have drivers for all parts, also I can download from manufacturer sites.
The thing is I'm upgrading from my Pentium 1.7GHZ 512 SDRAM Geeforce 5700FX to new AMD 4400 2GB DDR evga 7950GX2 so for me there will b improvement anyway, even if it works slower than XP :D

Your drivers may not work with Vista. Drivers for Windows XP often either don't work at all, or don't work very well. Manufacturers may be reluctant to release drivers for Vista until Vista itself is released.

And yes, it is definitely very Beta. That means there are problems (I've seen a few myself). Also, Betas are intended for people to use to test with their hardware/software and report bugs, not to avoid paying for a copy of Windows XP.

And on the latter subject, I suggest you familiarise yourself with the rules before any more of your posts get edited. Thanks.

Based on what you've spent on your new machine, I fail to see why you resent paying £60 for XP?? Thats less then £10 per month (until the theoretical release date of Vista) for something totally fundamental to your PC.

I fully intend to buy Vista when its released, but I will definately be dual-booting with XP until I'm happy that everything works and I get the same performance for Vista as I do from XP. Thus, I am expecting XP to stay on my machine for at least 9-10 months.

Or do you get a little more patient over time? :D:D

I installed it, realised I couldnt get aero working as my card is only a geforce4, then promptly uninstalled it in the space of about 30 minutes.

Its good, but I cant see it having anything over XP which would make me upgrade anytime soon. Though Saying that, Everyone said that about WIN9x -> XP :)
