is it possible to run windows from a usb 3.0 stick? asking because i have every sata port on my mobo full with old hdds and my ssd, i prefer having the games i play on my ssd and several programs i run regularly, i had to reformat a few weeks ago and it was a pita putting everything back on. i dont have the money at the min to buy a second ssd or a bigger hdd to put back all my old drives into one. so could i run windows from a 32gig usb stick with one of my 3.0 ports? if so what sort of speed hit would i take? or would i barely suffer one? as windows is currently running on my ssd

It depends on which USB 3 drive you're using as well as the USB 3 controller on your motherboard.

... I would be more worried if it will last however due to the read/writes being done to it.

Couple of points to consider - how big is your Windows install? Do you really need all the stuff on your hard drives? Assuming you are maxed on storage, where is this vital data being backed up? If no backup exists, you're well on the way to losing the contents of any or all of your drives (PC stolen/fire etc)
