Hi,

My USB (wired) mouse regularily shoots to the edge of the screen of it's own accord. I have tried several different mice and get the same problem. All of the mice work fine when used with my laptop.

I have tried fiddling with some of the settings in the start/control panel/mouse but it make no difference.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

I get the same on my PC at work. Only with USB and tried different mice and it makes no difference. Cursor shoots upto the top left for 5-10 seconds, maybe every 3 hours or so.

Gives me an excuse not to do any work for a few seconds at least. :D

Never had it home though (running XP MCE and Vista)

dodgy usb port? can you test using an alternate one? :)

Thanks for that. I have swapped the mouse to another port so I will see what happens.

Yes, still the same.

I have now swapped the USB extension cable (1.5M long) and will try that.

Short test, about 30 minutes intensive use of mouse playing backgammon, but not a flicker so the problem appears to be resolved. Dodgy USB extension cable!

Thanks to marc for the clue!

It's probably the surface of the desk/matt/whatever that's confusing the mouse, or perhaps a hair near the sensor. Try it on a sheet of plain paper or something.

I had this problem with a old optical mouse several years back, It was windows causing it and we reinstalled it and it stopped. Very strange.
