Is there any special hardware connections needed for running 2 monitors?

Presumably it's just a question of plugging one into a graphics card via a DVI port and the other into the graphics card via either a DVI or VGA port?

What are display ports used for? Are these basically the same thing?

So, surely it's just a matter of making sure the GPU has at least 2 outputs?

Then I assume it's just a matter of configuring the software to display the output on the screens as required (ie 1 big screen stretched over 2 monitors or different content on each monitor)?

Anything to be aware of / any pitfalls to avoid etc?

ps. sorry about the daft questions but been living under a rock for the past few years ;)

As long as your graphics card isn't prehistoric then nope.

Can do. DVI is digital. VGA is analogue.

Display ports require an adaptor cable to make them DVI or HDMI iirc. The cables are about £10-15

Pretty much!

Yep. I have only used 2 screens in Windows XP and 7 and it is easy :).
