Hi all just got back from a long round trip to collect 2 Dell 2713Hm monitors I wanted for photo editing, so I'm only using 1 for the time being till I get my new system built and a new desk to fit it all on.

Anyway I've plugged the HDMI cable in to the monitor and laptop and it works fine other than not being able to use the full resolution (2560x1440), I'm only able to use 1920x1080

Correct me if I'm wrong but is this due to me not using the DVI (Dual Link) Cable???

If it is how will I connect 2 screens on full resolution when my new systems built?? of its not what is it??

Thanks

That's correct, you need to connect to your PC either by dual link DVI or by displayport.

Most modern GPUs come with dual DVI ports, or at least a displayport and a DVI, so either way you should be fine.

Brilliant thanks not a major panic anyway as I'll not be getting the new unit till Christmas and I can't use the second screen until I get my new desk also at Christmas

Quite exciting

What GPU are you putting in?

The GPU is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Black Edition I notice it has
1 - DVI-D Dual-Link
1 - DVI-I Dual-Link
2 - HDMI

Will I be able to run both monitors with the same cable on the DVI-D and DVI-I ports?? Are they the same thing?

Thanks

You will need two DVI-D cables. The DVI-I socket has extra pins for an analog connection to a VGA monitor, but the DVI-D cable will also fit. You could use DVI to HDMI cables, but some people find that causes problems with the Bios Post screens not appearing. DVI to DVI is the best way to go.

Thanks ive got 2 DVI-D cables.

So ill have both screens connected with 2 DVI-D cables but the cables will go to DVI-D and DVI-I ports on the base unit?
