So I've ran two monitors for some time now and couldnt really do without it.

But i'm wondering will that have a big impact when playing games where you only use the one? Up till now all i do is turn the second one off at the power button just so it isnt distracting but i'm wondring if i bascially should be turning it off in windows and whether i'll see a performance increase by doing so.

I cant test it at the minute as i'm waiting for delivery of a new computer but if my gfx card isnt fried it'll be a 5870 i'll be running if that makes a difference.

Similar set-up

I disable the secondary screen in windows, dont think just turning it off will help

Only way to find out what difference it makes is to benchmark with it on and then
again with it off and see if it is different. ......
and you might need to do 3 runs and average the results per test.

To me it really depends on the game. If I'm playing something fast-paced or atmospheric I turn off the second screen, but I usually don't turn off the second screen in widows as the performance drop is usually very small (at least from what I can tell).

However, when I am playing something slower paced I often leave the second monitor on - running a video, browser window or IM client.

Ok, once my new set up gets to me i'll do some benchmarks and see what the difference is. I just thought others will have already been there, done that.

Thanks

I have a 4890 hooked up to a 19" Benq & my 40" Samsung. When i game the 40" is switched off & there is no drop in performance at all.
Mind you i play COH on my 40 & it's smooth as silk.
I'd say it's down to the card & yours will cope admirably.
