Hi,

I've recently upgraded to a 1TB ssd which I am going to be mainly using for video storage. Aside from just installing Windows on it, do I need to alter anything in the bios?

Also, how do you update a second drive (e.g. Windows updates), as when I attempt to do anything like that Windows assumes that I'm referring to the C drive?

Thanks. :)

hang on I'm not fully understanding the post.... it sounds like you are installing 2 different windows, you only need it on one of the ssd's.

If you've only got one copy of windows you could change the letter of the windows install drive to C:\ (pretty sure you can do it in disk management but never had to do it). Updates would normally be installed to the drive the the active windows is installed on

As to bios... well my z97 has the option to define the ssd's (I'm running 2 ssd's and 2 hard drives) as ssd's in the bios but can't say it's changed anything on mine.

I think you may need to start from the beginning.

Your PC had an SSD (500GB as in sig?) which had Windows and programs installed?

You want to replace this 500GB with a 1TB drive? Will you want the 500GB as secondary storage drive?
Or you want to add 1TB drive, and dual boot Windows on both drives depending on requirement?

To be honest, unless you are running out of space for applications on the 500GB, I would just add the 1TB as a storage drive (not install Windows) and move things like the downloads/my videos/my music folder onto it.
Also, if you want to install things like games, just tell it to use the d: drive during installation. For Steam, you can pretty much just move the folder*.

*other things may be required

Thanks for the replies, chaps.

I didn't know that I only required one installation of Windows. :o I guess that's how you learn, eh? :D

So, all I needed to do was format it, as in right click - format? I might swap the video files back to the 500GB, then format the 1TB, and then finally add the videos back to it.

not sure if it will be that easy now as it might now have 2 windows installs in the boot list...does the system list options of which windows to use during boot?

As to right click, in disk manager you could have just formatted the new drive (given it letter of choice/partitions etc too) and then used it straight after.
