Running 3 monitors on a pc

Is it possible to run 3 monitors on a pc, each displaying a separate application? And would this require 3 graphics cards?

Yes it's possible, windows has built in display spanning, you'll need 2 graphics cards (or a really expensive single one with 4 outs).

You can either go down the route of 1x PCIe and 1x PCI or 2x PCIe (just make sure they are from the same company, i.e. nVidia or ATI - mixing and matching can be problematic).
