not sure
Hi all I want to dive deeper into multi screen setups

I have at the moment

Q6700
ATI 4890 1gb
4 gb ram

I am using 2 moniters connected to the ATI 4890 so I have used the two DVI ports up all ready

So I looked around and heard that I could fit another card even a cheap one and it does not need to be ATI it could be Nvidia (I thought there would be conflicts with drivers?)

Any way I want a set up like this as I mess about in 3D apps, photo editing and other things.

But I all so play games and I dont want to use the 3 moniters ingame but will the second card decrease performance at all?.

P.S

I have a good PSU so it will handle a second card if need be.

thats great thanks very much.

One thing though what ever i have on the screen that is powered by the slow card is that actually handled by that card or is it really just working as an extra moniter output.

So say i am running a 3d app on the screen powered by the really slow card is the rendering etc still handled on me ati 4890?

Not 100% sure myself, but I would image the low end card would be dedicated to whatever screen you are driving. So any 3D apps on the 3rd screen would be running at the low end cards speed.

Whats it for?

I'm not 100% sure either. Sometimes if I drag a program that's already running from the main GPU to a lower GPU, the main GPU still does the work. When I start the program up on the monitor on the lower GPU, then the lower GPU does the work. It doesn't always happen though and can get... confusing...

Ah there was me thinking it was a silly question so at least I dont feel to bad now LOL.

Any one know for sure?

Thanks PhillyDee and Orcvader for your replys.

Nah mate just extended desktop for space.

I want to run

Web,emails,PDF on screen 1

3D design package on screen 2

And photo editing on screen 3

What I need to know is if I put the most demanding app say 3D designing on the screen that is run off the crappy GPU (aint got one yet) I have will it run at the speed of the rubbish card OR me primery card (ATI 4890 1gb)

LOL yeah have no choice really I only dabble any way nothing pro.

You could allso say

"your using an ATI 4890 1gb for 3d design" as a render card would be much faster :P but I use it for gaming to.

I would love 8GB of ram but aint got the money and the screens I have I have had for a very long time way befor I lost me job.

So yeah cant upgrade, purchase any new PC gear :P have to make the best of a bad situation but then I am use to that now I suppose

Woot got me another card its not very good but will do for running web and PDF`s on etc its a

ATI HD3450 256mb DDR2 PCI-E

Just got to get me a moniter LOL

So do I just install the card start PC then install drivers for this card aswell?
