Im trying to run Civ 5 (32bit game) on my windows 7 64bit laptop.

I only have home premium 64 bit so I cant use 32bit virtual machine. How do I get CIV5 running?

I cant belive it wont install as loads of games are 32bit but install on 64 bit system. When I click install it says "You need a compatible x32 or 64 bit version"

I think it should be possible, i use 32bit programs for college work like 3Ds Max. Maybe a driver problem, im not sure.

I installed civ v on home premium x64 no problem. And civ 4 shortly afterwards, which is years old. Definitely not an issue with the games being 32 bit and the OS 64.

You do realise that all x86 software running on windows x64 is running in an emulator (it has too). If this was an old game like bf2 then errors like this would make sense, but civ5 is petty new. You shouldn't need compatibility mode, although I'd try running as admin.

WOW isn't emulation as most people understand it though.

Its not really emulation though, WoW64

There should be no issues running most, if not all 32bit games on a 64bit OS if you take out the issues of older games / compatibility issues with vista / win 7 / xp.

It runs the game as a 32 bit process....

Install or run as admin, should fix your issues.

actually BF2 works 100% on Win7 Pro x64 :p

Sorry to jump in on this thread but you guys might be able to help me out too. I'm going to purchase laptop in the morning for my housemate as hers died and she needs one desperately for work.

I found one and it will come with Win 7 64 bit which I thought great, but her bloody music software Sibelius says that only the latest version (6.2) is supported in Win 7 64 bit and all previous versions (even 6.0 and 6.1) work in 32 bit.

Anyone know of a way to run it (or anysoftware) in 32 bit mode on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit? I looked at the XP Mode on MS's site and it won't even let me use that as it'll be home premium (although I don't even know if that would have worked anyway as would it still be 64 bit and just XP?).

Only other thing I can think of is partitioning the drive when I get it and installing 32 bit Win 7 awell.

Or could I simply re-install Win 7 Home Premium using the 32 bit version and the OEM key that comes with the laptop?

Thanks!

(Also Aod is that a pball gun exploded view in your sig?)

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work anyway. I think not supported just means they can't guarantee old versions will work on windows 7 x64. I can't remember having any problems with 32bit versions of software because they were installed 64bit windows 7, ever. The only issues i've had with 64bit windows are drivers for some old or poorly supported hardware, and one 16bit application (civ 2 :()
Oh, and to the OP, i don't think the problem lies with the OS, sounds more like the installer is corrupt or something.

I'd just install the software, as said it will no doubt work fine with 64 bit, I've recently moved to 64 bit and installed a whole bunch of stuff with no problems.

But yes you can reinstall using 32 bit and use the oem key that comes with the laptop, I've just done this on a dell, well 32 - 64 bit, had to use the phone activation but that only took but a moment.

You're probably right, it's just all her stressing out was making me stress out late last night. Will do that and if all else fails then I'll re-install the whole os with 32bit :)

From the website;

Can I run Sibelius on 64-bit Windows?
Sibelius 6.1, Sibelius 6 Student and Sibelius 6 First are all officially supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows 7, and on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
On Windows 7 64-bit, Sibelius 6.1 is a Large Address Aware (LAA) application, allowing it to access up to 4GB RAM (twice as much as is possible on older, 32-bit versions of Windows.)

So assuming she has one of them versions, it'll be fine looks like.
