hello
new to site

i am considering in running cat5e network around my one bed property and was looking for a bit of advice.

i want to have 3 4 port faceplates in 3 locations

1= hall
2=living room
3=bedroom

reason for this is i have a router with 4 ports so looking to be able to locate this in a cupboard in hall and run this to both locations.

can i run 8 cables of the 4 ports from hall 4 going to bed and for going to livingroom or can i loop it like a mains ring main ??

if i am using port 1 or 2 i will use 3 or 4 in the other room so not running 2 devices of the same port

thanks in advance for any help

thanks for the replies

am i right thinking that the patch panel is just to give the extra ports at the hub/router point (hall point) then 4 wires to each other face plate bedroom/ living room and
the network switch is to increase ports from standard 4 port hub into switch to increase ports to 8 or more so i can feed 4 to both locations??

cheers

hi

i can upload any image not sure if because new member

i was thinking connecting 3 face plates up in a line by port 1-1-1 port 2-2-2 port 3-3-3 port 4-4-4

then when i connect router/hub up to port 1 in Hall i could use port 1 in living room (laptop) as long as port 1 not used in bedroom not in use.

does that make sense?

cheers

thank you for taking the time to do that sketch

yes thats what i was thinking of trying to do.

ok so be best to get a 8 port patch panel in hall then 4 to each room, and connect router to whichever ports i want to use or use a network switch to increase ports to eight to make all ports live in both rooms??

thanks
