Running an old access 2003 db

I've been given an old access 2003 db that needs opening but it won't open on Access 2010 .. Is there anyway I can safely and legally open and use this database? possibly through a vm or access 2003 run time environment etc... ideas and thoughts appreciated.

There was an issue with Access 2003 user security that needed something doing in order to open a 2003 database in 2007 onwards.

Just realised it's an old 97 DB.. :/ oh well.. thanks anyway.

OK, are you just double clicking the file or using open and it's file options?
Have you tried somethink like Apache Office, Free Office, Libre office etc.

Can you perhaps use a newer Access database and create an ODBC link to the data in the older one?

I had this problem with an old access 2 db you cannot use the original functionality but you can connect using odbc or do cannot remember now in code and deal with it that way it's a pain though
