Hey all,

Managed to dislocate my ankle about 18months ago and it hasn't really been upto running (was managing 10k <50min before the break after 2months of training) and I have decided that 18months is long enough for my to be worried about not trying to train.....so started running again this week and last, currently upto 5k <28min so going to keep pushing to get up to what I was before the break over the next couple of weeks.

My question is, does anyone have any recommendation on ankle supports, I have a pair of Asics gell 1160 trainers which were recommended to me for the support but after running I am getting stiffness around the ankle, this is probably due to snapping the ligaments as well as dislocating it, apart from just keeping an eye on the pain and taking ibuprofen after running to reduce any swelling, does anyone have any advice.

The doctors just advise me to rest it.........

A theraband and some regular stretches will also help with the mobility of the ankle.

mild resistance training on your ankles each night will be a big help.

Had you thought about Pilates? You do a lot of exercises balancing on one leg and it's good for all the supporting muscles.
