Running CF with a mining card?

I have a rx 580 8gb, and I know a lad with an unused 580 8gb mining.

Will they work in cf?
The sims I play scale very well with cf, I have just picked up a 32" 1440 screen and the 580 at max setting is giving me around 40fps. When I CF with a 570 4gb card I own I get around 70fps but lose 4gb of ram.

Is the mining card worth getting, the lad is a 70min drive away, I don't want to do that then the gpu not work.

Yes.

If it scales with games you play then great. Not many these days but I see there is multi-gpu support going forward if not for gaming so as long as the drivers factor it in then I am a person that has crossfired since it was able to over the years.

Is it worth getting? That's down to you and I would guess about 90% of users on this forum would say no.

I would be using it for mining though when not gaming so it would be a double yes from me! :)

Upon a search this was as recent as you will get.

Some games it actually is great and brings me back to the whole point in having a board that can do it. Basically I was always one of the 'I will add another card later when the prices drop further down the line' types.

Doubtful, aren't these cards disabled for gaming at the bios level? Maybe a re-flash etc might do it though? I wouldn't bother personally.

I know the nvidia mid to low cards have had it taken away but I never seen anything indicating you could not do this on an AMD card (580 for example).

This is the worry I had. I know a used 580 would cost me £100ish so I feel the pros outway the cons for me. I know the games I want it for all do support it. I don't feel for this price there is a better option

About 7 years ago I used two 7770's and it worked. A bit different when I had the 7990 not long after but you just search and I cannot see 580s not being able to do it so go figure.

Nope the mining editions just had physical outputs removed afaik.

Ahh my bad a specific mining edition without the outputs - hmm. In theory the monitor goes into the existing card and this should be possible but would have to check the spec stated on the model.

How much? Because 580s are cheap as chips. Good luck unloading a mining one if it doesn't work.

Free, he got 6 but could only run 5.
I gave him a cpu and ram a few months ago, so it's a back payment. I am asking because if it doesn't work I don't want to drive down.
