Running Debian in a VM on Apple Silicon?

How can I do this? I don't want the GUI, I'd just like to be able to run a Debian VM on my Studio.

I tried Virtualbox but couldn't persuade it to boot from the Debian image I'd downloaded.

Ideally I'm looking for a free solution.

This will need to be emulated I think so UTM should work. I tried it with Windows x86 and it was painfully slow but it did work. A headless Debian install may well be more responsive.

Feek, this should work fine on VMware Fusion Tech Preview, or Parallels if you want. There's no requirement for emulation.

Grab the arm64 ISO from https://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst

Drag the ISO into the new VM window in Fusion. I just downloaded it and it installs fine. Don't add a desktop if you don't want to use one.

Yes you can. Just use the arm64 version of Debian.

Wasn’t aware there was one! Should’ve known better. In that case, as everyone says, VMware Fusion works great. I’ve used it for Windows ARM with no issues

If you just want a headless Debian instance, I'd highly recommend just using docker.
