Basically I currently have 4gb (2x2gb) Geil Black Dragon ddr2 1066mhz ram which I bought from Overclockers a couple of years ago. I think one of my sticks has become faulty or always was faulty as my pc becomes unstable with this particular module in. I would get blue screens mentioning memory management, games would crash or the screen would become black and I would have to restart my machine. I have been running with just one stick in at 2gb for a while now and the crashes have gone and all appears to be stable.

My question is, if I bought some OCZ 2gb (2x1gb) sticks of 1066mhz ddr2 to use with my current 2gb Geil Black Dragon would this be fine? The timings for both are 5-5-5-15 and I think the voltages are the same too.

Also if I was to RMA my Geil Black Dragon would this be done with Geil directly or with Ocuk as it was over 2 years ago when I purchased it?

Thanks

It's not ideal to mix and match different memory modules however you should be ok if they are running at the same timings and voltage. Regarding your RMA query - I think this would be done through Geil at this point but send OcUK a webnote and they will confirm this for you ;)

I know it isn't ideal but as long as it will work then its all good. Thanks phil, I'll drop them a note.

I went ahead and ordered the ram anyway as I would need to send the whole 4gb kit back even though just one stick is faulty and I can't bear being without my desktop whilst the RAM is RMA'd
